Perfect Draft Keg Review – Camden Hells

Camden Town is one of Brewings real success stories. Their debut beer, this very lager was released in 2010. By 2015 they had been acquired by Brewing Giants ABInBev for £85 million. Camden Hells, cleverly named, apparently, because it’s a blend of a Helles and a Pilsners.

The Upshot

Hells is crisp, and refreshing with a pleasant aftertaste. Its very slight m hoppines is called by the pilsner style malts that leave a good mouth feel. The Perfect Draft machine does Camden Hells a huge favour. As a machine it’s very consistent in its temperature and pour. That works very well with Camden Hells’s flavour profile.

It’s not complex, and it’s not going to bowl you over with hoppy delight. That’s not what it’s for and that’s ok too. At 4.6% you can have a few and not feel like it’s knocked your socks off. It fills a rather crowded space at the moment. This space is usually occupied by continental lagers. In this space Camden Hells has decided to operate. It’s carved a lively niche for itself in the perfect draft range. It’s a crowded space. Perfect Draft offer plenty of 4.5% & 4.6% lagers.

4*. Good if unspectacular. If it’s on offer with some glassware then get hold of some.
