Perfect Draft Keg Review – Becks

I’ll be the first to admit that when it comes to lagers I’d choose Becks is pretty much towards the bottom of the list, but that being said it was on a perfect draft deal so I took the plunge.

Ordinarily Becks is the sort of lager I’d steer clear of when drinking from bottles or cans. I’m not sure why but I’ve always experienced quite a metallic taste with Becks, the hoppiness obviously not sitting too well on my palette.

Becks has been brewed with the same basic 4 ingredients for over 140 years. Before anyone chimes in, I mean specific ingredients I.e type of hops, barley etc. it’s brewed according to Reinheitsgebot which is a German purity law that restricts additives and substitutions in beer ensuring the best quality.

The Taste

I’m pleased to report that the Perfect Draft has really given Becks a new lease of life for me. In fact it had me wishing I could find it on draft more widely.

The Perfect Draft machine really did this lager justice. At a solid 4.9% ABV it was suitably refreshing and very drinkable. The acrid taste I’d previously experienced with Becks was gone and mild but pleasant flavour of hops remained. There was a subtle maltiness to go with these flavours which was backed up by a pleasant mouth feel. It poured well which matches smoother and unaggressive mouth feel which wasn’t overly bubbly or gassy.

The Upshot

As with everything Perfect Draft Keg related I’d strongly recommend waiting until the keg is on offer. You can also find these kegs on offer on Amazon quite regularly also. If you do come across it at around the £30 mark and that’s a price you’re willing to pay then on the whole i don’t think you’d be disappointed.

4*. Buy at the right price.
